What can a Business do to Succeed Today?

Professional management consultant Aaron Eichler has helped numerous businesses create effective strategies for success in Minnesota. His academic credentials include a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from Macalester College and an MBA Degree from the Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota. Business leaders have benefited from Eichler’s business advice over the last 25 years. His success is their success.

Many methods for creating a successful business can be the same for some companies. True success starts with a well-written and comprehensive business plan. Too many entrepreneurs get ambitious about their ideas without creating a plan for turning them into a profitable business venture. That is why 9 out of 10 small businesses end up failing within the first year. Avoid falling into this statistic by creating a business plan that outlines your company’s financing, management strategies, marketing plan, sales plan, and short-term and long-term objectives. Then you will know where your company is going and how to get it there.

Analyze the competition in your industry. Don’t assume that your business will become more successful than your competitors. Research the pros and cons of competing companies in your area and see what works and doesn’t work for them. For example, find out what your competition is selling successfully. Once you find out, come up with something better than what they’re selling. And if they are failing in certain areas, show your target demographic that your company is not failing at them.

Creativity always helps too. Sometimes the best improvements to a business come from the creative side of your brain. The ability to develop new products or services requires you to reach for the stars and develop new ideas that other people have never thought of before. Most importantly, never give up. Giving up will guarantee your failure. But if you stick around and never stop trying, your business will have a good chance of succeeding!

Business Negotiation Tactics

For over 25 years, Aaron Eichler has worked as an independent business management consultant for several different companies in Minnetonka, Minnesota. His expertise includes advising business managers on the best tactics for negotiating with clients, business leaders and other corporate stakeholders. His educational background includes a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics from Macalester College and a Master of Business Administration Degree from the University of Minnesota’s Carlson School of Management.

Good negotiations start with your etiquette. Show the other party you are a true professional. Do not lower yourself to spewing personal insults if there is a disagreement. Maintain a respectful and dignified tone throughout the negotiations, regardless of the outcome. Even if one negotiation doesn’t go well, it doesn’t mean future negotiations won’t go well. Always try to maintain a good relationship with the other party to establish a solid long-term relationship.

Never accept the first offer. There is always room to negotiate when the other party makes an offer to buy or sell something. A buy offer usually starts with the lowest price possible, while a sell offer starts with the highest price. What you’ll want to do is negotiate something that meets the other party halfway in the middle. That way, both parties can get some of what they want.

Take a little extra time to investigate the other party or the value of their offer. However, don’t take too much time to decide or else the other party might walk away from the deal. Make sure both parties agree on a deadline for a decision to be made.

How to Keep Warm While Winter Camping

Aaron Eichler graduated with an MBA from the University of Minnesota, Carlson School of Management, in 2003. In June 2017, he founded a strategic consultancy firm in Minnetonka, Minnesota. Aaron Eichler enjoys outdoor activities such as biking, fishing, baseball, and camping when he’s not working.

While camping is a favorite summertime activity for Minnesotans, many people also enjoy camping in the winter. Minnesota has various spots for winter camping, including Afton State Park, True North Basecamp, Glendalough State Park, Jay Cooke State Park, Lake Maria State Park, and Whitetail Woods Regional Park. While camping during winter can be thrilling, being ill-prepared can lead to a miserable night due to cold weather and freezing temperatures. Below are some tips to keep warm during winter camping.

The most crucial part of winter camping is keeping warm through heat management. It is essential to carry along warm clothes, such as insulated jackets, leg warmers, gloves, scarfs, woolen hats, and hot water bottles. It is also advisable to bring a suitable type of footwear depending on the kind of trip. A good pair of waterproof boots will help keep the feet well insulated.

When building a fire, it is essential to keep the fire elevated, which helps the fire burn hotter and remain consistent, thus providing much-needed warmth. Also, it is a good idea for people to sleep close to each other as possible to keep warm at night.

Saving the Restaurant Industry

A business consultant from Minnetonka, Minnesota, Aaron Eichler is the founder of Strategic Consulting. As a business consultant, Aaron Eichler counsels businesses on strategy to help maximize a company’s earning and growth potential.

In 2020, many of the businesses in the restaurant industry were forced to adopt different strategies to survive. Whether it meant employees changing roles to remain employed or completely rearranging the establishment to accommodate the new social distancing policies, many restaurateurs found themselves in a position to come up with solutions quickly.

One way that many restaurants managed to remain afloat was to change their menus by focusing primarily on popular food items. At the same time, restaurants depleted existing items and refrained from purchasing new items that had a low shelf-life and required a lot of labor. Another strategy involved completely dropping certain food items. Owners had to take into consideration which foods traveled best in containers.

Restaurants also transformed their entire menus to target a particular group of people. For example, one restaurant transitioned into cooking Vietnamese food, and another chose to turn their buffet-style format into one that delivers comfort foods.

Finally, one high-end restaurant survived by offering meals for less $40. In fact, high-end restaurants fared the worst because tasting menus typically cost more than traditional ones, but this was one way to hold onto customers.

Majority of Carlson School Graduates

Since 1998, Aaron Eichler has worked in management consulting, strategy, finance, corporate growth, and analytics. Before his extensive career in business, Aaron Eichler attended the Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota, where he earned a master’s in business administration.

Despite the pandemic, the Carlson School of Management saw many of its students gain employment after graduation. Much of this success was attributed to the Undergraduate Business Career Center and Graduate Business Career Center (GBCC), which helped both graduates and undergraduates access employment.

For those graduating from their undergraduate programs, 98 percent had a job, joined the military, or went to graduate school within three months of graduation. Graduates that were employed had an average starting salary of $60,000. Full-time MBA students also managed to gain employment within three months of earning the degree. Moreover, they benefited from increased salaries, bonuses, and negotiated vacation time, which increased since last year.

Finally, those who earned specialty master’s degrees also accessed employment at high levels. All of the students graduating with a master’s of science in finance, and 94 percent of the MSBA students could access employment within three months of graduation.

Technology and the Conservation of Nature

Aaron Eichler is an independent business management consultant in Minnetonka, Minnesota. He helps clients identify revenue-generating and cost-effective strategies to achieve their company’s goals. Passionate about preserving the environment, Aaron Eichler supports the efforts and advocacies of The Nature Conservancy.

Founded in 1951, The Nature Conservancy is an environmental nonprofit organization that leverages science and technology to accomplish its mission of protecting land and water for the survival of all.

Technological advances in aerial and underwater surveillance, such as drones and satellites, have enabled The Nature Conservancy’s scientists to map and analyze the health of the Caribbean's reef network. Access to high-resolution maps of the coral reefs in the Caribbean has opened doors for The Nature Conservancy’s scientists to gather more data. Through Microsoft’s machine-learning algorithm, scientists can learn more about the area's tourism activities and push for coral reef protection due to the economic incentive that the reef brings to the local economy.

Using Social Media to Attract

As the founder and managing director of a strategic consulting firm in Minnetonka, Minnesota, Aaron Eichler helps companies maximize revenue, reduce costs, and create value for consumers. With his knowledge and expertise in strategy and growth, Aaron Eichler also focuses on helping companies in the restaurant industry.

Because many restaurants have been forced to close, some restaurant owners have turned to takeout and delivery to remain in operation. An effective strategy to make this transition smooth is using social media.

Social media is a viable tool for attracting leads and turning them into paying customers. By advertising on social media sites such as Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter, restaurant owners can promote their menus, give away gift vouchers, and engage customers through contests to encourage repeat orders. In addition to marketing, social media is a good way for business owners to resolve customer complaints, gather feedback, and learn about customer preferences.

Ways to Improve Operational Efficiency

With an MBA from the Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota, Aaron Eichler is the founder and managing director of firm Strategic Consulting. In this role, Aaron Eichler helps organizations develop strategies to improve their operational efficiency.

Operational efficiency is the measure of a company's ability to deliver products or services by using the least amount of capital and time. Here are three ways to boost operational efficiency:

1. Streamline processes.

Streamlining entails simplifying or eliminating unnecessary or redundant steps in a workflow. This is done by listing all of the tasks and deciding if they provide enough value to justify the involved resources.

2. Integrate technology.

Companies can integrate technology into many areas of operation to speed the process and improve the productivity of employees. For instance, deploying an inventory management system makes tracking the level of stock easier.

3. Encourage innovation.

Encouraging a culture of innovation and collaboration benefits both the company and its employees. Companies that empower their employees to think of ways to improve their work are better able to overcome competition. Employees are happier and more engaged in business outcomes when their contributions directly impact the company’s objectives.

Blue Bonds for Ocean Conservation Aims

A graduate of the University of Minnesota Carlson School of Management and former employee of several Fortune 500 companies, Aaron Eichler founded Strategic Consulting in 2017. Outside of his consulting business, Aaron Eichler supports charitable organizations including the Nature Conservancy.

Operating in 79 countries on six continents, the Nature Conservancy strives to combat climate change and conserve land and water worldwide. In 2019, the organization introduced Blue Bonds for Ocean Conservation, an initiative that would unlock $1.6 billion in funding to protect more than 1.5 million square miles of ocean over five years.

Current projections show that 90 percent of the world’s coral will be extinct within the next generation. The Blue Bonds for Ocean Conservation initiative proposes to refinance and restructure debt for coastal and island countries, incentivizing them to protect ocean areas such as mangrove forests, reefs, and fish spawning sites. The Nature Conservancy plans to utilize this model in 20 countries over the next five years, ultimately saving more than 13 percent of the world’s coral reefs, protecting habitats, and preserving economies that benefit more than 43 million people around the globe.

Ducks Unlimited Prioritizes Protection

Since 2017, Aaron Eichler has served as managing director of Strategic Consulting, a business consulting firm he founded in Minneapolis, Minnesota. In addition to his professional pursuits, Aaron Eichler supports the conservation efforts of the nonprofit organization Ducks Unlimited.

Established in 1937, Ducks Unlimited has become the world’s largest waterfowl and wetlands conservation agency. To contribute to its mission of preserving waterfowl habitats across North America, the organization focuses on priority areas such as the Mississippi Alluvial Valley, a stopping point for more than 13.7 million ducks and 1.5 million geese on their annual migration to the Gulf Coast.

Due to natural and human-caused habitat changes, the region has lost wetland areas that are vital to the wintering habits of waterfowl. To protect the marshes and bays of the Gulf of Mexico, Ducks Unlimited works with state and federal partners to restore habitats on public lands, and with private land owners to protect waterfowl habitats on seasonally flooded land. It also advocates for water allocation and other processes that protect coastal ecosystems.

Three Ways to Boost Employee Teamwork

For more than three years, Aaron Eichler has served as managing director of Strategic Consulting, a business consulting firm that he established in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Alongside his team, Aaron Eichler supports businesses by increasing efficiency, creating value, and boosting business performance.

One effective way of improving business performance involves encouraging teamwork among employees. The following are several things businesses can do to boost employee teamwork:

 1. Encourage social events

Formal team building events are great, but forcing employees to participate in too many of these team building activities can be counterproductive when building teamwork. Rather than imposing these, companies should promote informal social events so employees can be more comfortable in getting to know one another and forming bonds with coworkers.

2. Set clear goals

Organizations that set clearly defined goals keep all their employees on the same page. Each individual knows what long-term goal they are working toward, despite handling different tasks during the day. Understanding these goals lets employees see their value in the organization and promotes a greater sense of teamwork since they are all working toward the same objective.

3. Create recognition programs

Small tokens of appreciation, praise, and other incentives for the good performance go a long way in promoting teamwork. When such recognition is given to teams, it helps employees have a greater sense of meaning in their work, in addition to creating value for their work. In turn, these characteristics improve teamwork.
