While camping is a favorite summertime activity for Minnesotans, many people also enjoy camping in the winter. Minnesota has various spots for winter camping, including Afton State Park, True North Basecamp, Glendalough State Park, Jay Cooke State Park, Lake Maria State Park, and Whitetail Woods Regional Park. While camping during winter can be thrilling, being ill-prepared can lead to a miserable night due to cold weather and freezing temperatures. Below are some tips to keep warm during winter camping.
The most crucial part of winter camping is keeping warm through heat management. It is essential to carry along warm clothes, such as insulated jackets, leg warmers, gloves, scarfs, woolen hats, and hot water bottles. It is also advisable to bring a suitable type of footwear depending on the kind of trip. A good pair of waterproof boots will help keep the feet well insulated.
When building a fire, it is essential to keep the fire elevated, which helps the fire burn hotter and remain consistent, thus providing much-needed warmth. Also, it is a good idea for people to sleep close to each other as possible to keep warm at night.
