Three Ways to Boost Employee Teamwork

For more than three years, Aaron Eichler has served as managing director of Strategic Consulting, a business consulting firm that he established in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Alongside his team, Aaron Eichler supports businesses by increasing efficiency, creating value, and boosting business performance.

One effective way of improving business performance involves encouraging teamwork among employees. The following are several things businesses can do to boost employee teamwork:

 1. Encourage social events

Formal team building events are great, but forcing employees to participate in too many of these team building activities can be counterproductive when building teamwork. Rather than imposing these, companies should promote informal social events so employees can be more comfortable in getting to know one another and forming bonds with coworkers.

2. Set clear goals

Organizations that set clearly defined goals keep all their employees on the same page. Each individual knows what long-term goal they are working toward, despite handling different tasks during the day. Understanding these goals lets employees see their value in the organization and promotes a greater sense of teamwork since they are all working toward the same objective.

3. Create recognition programs

Small tokens of appreciation, praise, and other incentives for the good performance go a long way in promoting teamwork. When such recognition is given to teams, it helps employees have a greater sense of meaning in their work, in addition to creating value for their work. In turn, these characteristics improve teamwork.
